Soyong studied graphic design under the famous fabric designer Jong Hwa Park and sculptor Jong Myung at Sook Myung Women's University in Seoul, Korea. She was told by her parents to study graphic design in college and not ceramics because they believed that there were too many potters in Korea. Years later Soyong finally gave into her desire to learn ceramics and started taking ceramic classes at t he Indianapolis Art Center. She participates in the Broad Ripple Art Fair and has frequent one-woman shows at various galleries throughout the Midwest.

Soyong is the head of ceramics department at the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center and teaches the popular ceramics and youth camps there. Her art is shown at well-known local galleries and her art work and jewelry is for sale at the Sullivan Munce Cultural Center Boutique.
